Following recent press coverage regarding our new plans for the SR Heritage Centre at Wenhaston, we were contacted by local solicitors who recalled seeing in their attic a tin box full of documents relating to the closure of the railway. These have now been passed on to the Trust and promise some fascinating reading!
The documents were amassed by the official receivers for the SR and cover such things as rent for coal yard space and ex-railway cottages at Loam Pit Lane, Halesworth as well as records of payments received and monies due elsewhere. There is even an inventory of items removed from by the Army during the WWII for the war effort. It seems to round things off nicely now that this historical archive has now been restored to the Trust.
