On our recent fact finding trip to Ireland we visited the Fintown Railway in beautiful County Donegal to view two former Belgian 3′ gauge tram carriages from Charleroi. These coaches are now surplus to requirements at Fintown, and just need a little refurbishment to be idea for our future projects at the Southwold Railway. We have been able to secure a very reasonable deal to transport one of these carriages back to the UK and we eagerly anticipate its arrival in Suffolk some time this month!
Thanks to generous donations from Trust members we have already raised a total of £920 so far. If you would like to help us financially with the purchase or transport costs – or would be interested in helping to restore the carriage – we should be delighted to hear from you! Full details of its arrival in Southwold will be posted on this blog in due course – I can’t wait!
