We were very pleased to welcome today a new locomotive on loan at Steamworks.

LM319, a Hunslet Wagonmaster (works number 8926 of 1979), worked the peat bogs of The Irish Republic for the Bord na Mona right up to the end of their use of railways, laterly being used on track laying trains. She was purchased for preservation by Ted McAvoy with whom we have made the loan agreement.

After some deft maneuvering to get the articulated lorry through the Steamworks gates, the locomotive was carefully lowered onto our track and it’s engine started. She then moved under her own power into the sanctuary of our now quite full engine shed.

Volunteers will give her a cosmetic tidy up over the next few weeks in preparation for our open day season which commences on Easter Sunday, 20th April.
