This spring and summer, the SR Trust is again offering its specialist guided railway tours through the scenic Blyth Valley. After three years of successful tours on Tilly’s “Olive”, we are going up-market this year to a classic 1966 Bristol 39-seat coach, provided by Bucklands Buses of Woodbridge, in which the seats are luxuriously upholstered, and there is heating and fresh air ventilation.
The all-day tours are similar to previous years, with pick-up and set down at both Southwold and Halesworth, a guided tour (by a “railway Guard”) of the track and historic structures of the Southwold Railway, a visit to the site of the planned new Wenhaston Station and to the Trust rolling stock workshop, as well as to the famous Electric Picture Palace cinema in Southwold. There will be an optional themed lunch, or you can bring your own.
New for 2015 is a half-day option (from Southwold only), with a short classic coach trip and a guided walk through one of the most scenic parts of the Blyth Valley, at Wenhaston, on land owned by the Trust. Here you can see where the station and track will be rebuilt, and enjoy the local wildlife and views.
Often, your humble blogster will be guiding these walks, so if you want to put a face to these ramblings, give us a try.
