With the restoration team now meeting on a regular basis at our shed at Duncan’s Yard, work has started in earnest on the ex-War Department 2’6″ gauge 4-wheeled chassis. Since this photo the chassis has been turned through 90 degrees for accessibility, with much of the brake gear being removed and protected with red oxide paint. The next plan is to jack up the frame and remove the axles in preparation for it going away to have the frame ‘stretched’ to accommodate the longer axles we will need to run on 3′ gauge. We plan to shorten it too and build a replica of an original SR covered van in which we can house a self-contained braking system to be paired up with the tram carriage. I’ll keep you posted…
